Ethical Framework

In my counselling practice I adhere to the ethical framework outlined by the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).

http://www.bacp.co.uk/ethical_framework/

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is a very important aspect of the counselling process.

All details and information disclosed in a counselling session (whether it’s the initial session or follow-up sessions) will remain strictly confidential. I do make very brief notes (after the session) to enable me to work professionally. These notes are kept safely locked away when not in use and all clients have the right to see their own notes if they wish to do so.

All information disclosed in supervision is also confidential.

The only time that I would ever need to break confidentiality is if I feel that a client is at risk of severe harm to themselves, or at risk of harm to others. In these situations I may talk to my supervisor or the necessary agency/authority.
