Counselling

There are many different types of counselling services available so it is important that you pick an approach and a counsellor that is suited to you and your needs. Following is some information about the type of counselling that I do.

What is Person-Centred Counselling?

Person-Centred Counselling is a humanistic approach, underpinned with the belief that every person has within them the resources they need to grow and develop as an individual. However, sometimes we struggle to find these inner resources especially when we are experiencing personal difficulties.

The Person-Centred Counsellor’s role is to listen to their client and to create a safe and therapeutic environment where the client will feel comfortable to explore their own feelings. This will eventually lead to increased self-awareness; which in turn will enable the client to gain an understanding of their own issues and a happier and more satisfying way of being.

Person-Centred Counselling is a talking therapy, which is non-directive. This means that the client will not be advised or directed by the counsellor; instead they will explore their feelings and issues at their own pace and in their own time.

The type of issues you can explore through Person-Centred counselling can include:

  • Relationship problems
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Bereavement or loss
  • Problems at work
  • Traumatic or life changing events
  • Bullying
  • Abuse (sexual, physical or emotional)
  • Self-harm
  • General unhappiness
